After reading this news from Malaysia about a rally of 1000 people who anti homosexuals, I felt that hatred and sexual discrimination are terrifying. The misunderstanding of minority groups in the society still remains and need to be resolved.

Dear my friend,

I think teachers and students should have a boundary. They both have their personal life outside schools. They can be friend.. For me, I have 2 Facebook accounts. One for my personal life that I can be myself (crazy, mad, or funny). Another one is “me” as a teacher role. This second one, I use to communicate with my colleagues, teachers, students, and people in my career.

Poster Presentation– HIV/STDs Prevention: A Family Life Education Workshop Project

The prevalence of people living with AIDS/ HIV is increasing each year. There are approximately 33.2 million people living with AIDS worldwide (Brookmeyer, 2010). In the United States, it can be estimated that more than 1,000,000 Americans are living with HIV (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010), and 25% of American teens are newly HIV infection (Weed, Ericksen, Lewis, Grant, & Wibberly, 2008).

The purpose of this project was to design, implement, and evaluate a HIV/STDs educational program for college students. The program provided current and accurate information on HIV/STDs infection and prevention. The program was offered to students attending two major universities in the North Texas area. Instructional methodologies included a PowerPoint presentation, lecture, and group discussion followed by a 1-to-5 Likert rating scale to evaluate the program on student learning. Findings indicated that students’ knowledge and attitude about HIV/STDs increased significantly after participating in the instructional program.

I totally agree that TV and video games make kids fat and obese.

Two hours per day is ok but not the whole day! I know that it is an easy way to let TV or video games be a “babysitter”. However, it is not a healthy choice. Although some TV programs can educate kids and some video games can help improve intellectual, they are poor to promote good health.

Let’s parents take kids away from the screen. Let them play out door activities!

I think parents sometimes intentionally speak with infant boys and girls differently. However, those infants can learn and gender categories and gender-appropriate behavior from their parents.

I believe that social socialization directly shapes children and their cognitive development.

In Ellen’s talk show, parents told a real story that their son committed a suicide because he couldn’t stand ongoing process of bullying in school years anymore.

We, as a parent, should schedule our time to listen and spend more time talking to our kids as a first priority activity to do every single day in hoping that we can prevent any negative outcome.

The CUIDAR COPE program is a community-based 10 week parenting program for parents with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) child. It aims to provide effective parenting skills, create parents’ positive attitudes on disorder child, and reduce child’s behavioral problems. The results show that it does create positive outcomes to parents and their ADHD children.
